Requirements

The nuclearmasses.org software suite is deployed using Sun Microsystem's Java Web Start software with the Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.6 or above (now called JRE 6.0). Through Java Web Start, standalone Java software applications can be deployed with a single click over the network. Java Web Start ensures the most current version of the application will be deployed and can be operated without the use of an internet browser. Listed below are instructions for installing and using Java Web Start for each available platform. Note that Java Web Start is always included when the JRE 6.0 is installed. Please contact coordinator@nuclearmasses.org
if you need assistance with installing our software.

Windows (98 or above only):

In most cases, if you have the JRE 6.0 installed, a single click will start the application. If you attempt to launch the application and are prompted to save a *.JNLP file, then you do not have a JRE installed. If you attempt to launch the application but your JRE fails to do so, then you may need to update your JRE to 6.0. If you do not have the JRE or your current JRE is version 1.4 or below, click here to go to the Sun Java download page, then select the download link to "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.0". Mac (OS X or above only):

In most cases, if you have the Sun Java JRE 6.0 installed, a single click will start the application. If you have version 1.3 of the Plug-in, open the Software Update pane of System Preferences and click Update Now. Be sure that Sun Java 1.4 or above is selected. After the installation of the JRE 1.4., repeat the process and use Software Update to install the Java 2 SE 6.0.

UNIX and Linux:

In most cases, if you have the JRE 6.0 installed, a single click will start the application. If you attempt to launch the application and are prompted to save a *.JNLP file, then you do not have a JRE installed. If you attempt to launch the application but your JRE fails to do so, then you may need to update your JRE to 6.0. If you do not have the JRE or your current JRE is version 1.4 or below, click here to go to the Sun Java download page, then select the download link to "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.0".
